IN MEMORIAM.
NORMAN MATHESON. - The kindest heart e'er beat in manly breast Is stilled for ever by the stroke of death, Hardly a stroke, merely a passing breath, So gently Nature led him to eternal rest. Though we, his friends, have lost what wa loved best, Yet not without the solace born of Faith/ Which to our stricken hearts, like balm, wo lay'th, As we hold him numbered with the blest. For from his native Lews' rdmantic sound, It was his fate through numerous lands to roam ; But, far or near, his heart was faithful found, In loyal love, to childhood's happy home. So much of me lies with him in his grave, I would not with my will the poor remainder save. - WM. M. STENHOUSE. ' Dunedin, AugUßt 26.
