LATE FOOTBALL.

WELLINGTON v. OTAGO. A WIN FOR WELLINGTON. The first of this season's interprovincial fixtures was played off on the Caledonian ground yesterday afternoon, when the Wellington representatives met and defeated the Otago team. The heavy rain that fell on the previous day had made the ground very wst, and yesterday's sun was not strong enough to make much improvement. The attendance was very large, and close ou 7000 must have been present. The crowd was fairly impartial, and the fine play shown at times by the visitors met with spontaneous approval. Some doubt was expressed as to whether Armit and Sinclair would be able to get away, but on representations being made to their employers, Mr Glendining courteously _and readily allowed them to take part in the match.
