THE WEATHER.
Saturday. Yesterday morning -was quite warm for a winter's day, but rain set in during the afternoon, and continued during the evening. As similar weather appears to have been experienced in the country distfiots, it is feared that damage may be caused by the rivers being swollen by the rapidly melting snow. The Telegraph department received the following wire from Quetmstown yesterday: — "2 p.m.: "Glass falling, heavy warm rain. Snow melting rapidly. Lake at normal, creeks rising. 5 p.m. : Still raining hard ; creeks in flood; lake rising fast, looks like rough night." A. Christchurch telegram states that a -warm wind melted the snow on the hills, and the rivers in North Canterbury are rising. Bain was falling late last night.
