Messrs Moritzson and Hopkin report for week ending August 1: — Wheat: There is a fair demand for prime samples, but. other descriptions are neglected again. The demand for fowl feed is active. We quote : Best velvet, 2s 6d to 2s 7d; medium, 2s 4d to 2s sd; best Tuscan, 23 6d to 2s 7d; medium, 2s 3d to 2s sd; fowl" wheat, Is lOd to 2s. Oats: The demand is strong for best feed, but other sorts have poor attention. We quote: Best feed, Is 3Jd to Is 4d; medium and inferior, Is 3d lo la 3d per bushel; Sutherlands, Is 5d to" Is s£d. Barley: There is very littU business doing in this. Feed sorts are quoted at Is 6d to Is 9d; milling, Is lOd to 2s; prime malting, 2s 9d to 3s \<\; medium, 2s -Id to 23 Bd. Ryecorn, nominally, 2s to 23 6d. Flour: We quote £6 10s. Oatmeal in 25's, dSB. Pearl barley, £12. Bran, £3. Pollard, £3 10s. Nelson hops are quoted at 8d to lid (f.0.b.). Chaff: Has rather more inquiry, especially prime oaten. Prime, £2 10s lo £2 12s 6d; medium, £2 to £2 7s 6d. Ryegrass: There is a better demand but not many sales are being made, as farmer 1? a\c inclined to hold in the meantime, to sea if prices will improve. Buyers' ideas of values are from Is 6d to Is 9d for ordinary farmers' dressed seed, and up to 2s for exceptionally good samples. We quote: Farmers' dressed, Is 3d to Is 9d; machined, 2s Gd to 33. Cocksfoot, 3Jd to 4d for farmers' lots, and 4id to 5d for machined. Linseed, £10. Pressed straw, 255. Clover hay, £3 to £3 10s. Nitrate of soda, £15. Clovers, rape, etc., all fresh. Potatoes.—Arrivals have been light, but prices show no improvement. Kidneys, almost unsaleable; Derwents, 27s 6d to 30s per ton. Hides, 2Jd to -lid, according to weight and condition. Tallow.—Rough fat, 9s to lls 6d; rendered, 10s 6d to 15s, according to quality. Horsehair, Is 2d to Is 4d. Sheepskins.—We offered a large catalogue at our usual sale on Tuesday. Owing to the rough weather fellmongers have not been able to get any drying done, and were, therefore, careless about buying, except for fine-woolled skins. Green crossbreds sold from 3s 6d to 4s 3d; dry crossbreds, 2s 3d to 5s 6d; merino, 2s 4d to 5s 6d; pelts, 6d to Is 9d. Rabbitskins.—We offered a good catalogue this week. Competition was keen, but prices v/ere ' slightly easier. We sold autumns and incomings from 12d to 16d per lb; summers, from 9<? to 13* d and small from 4d to 7d per lb; winters, 19d to 21d; selected to 22d per lb. ERtrrr and produce report. Butter.—The demand for all kinds of butter is very amet. and only small orders aro comine
in. We quote, nominally: No. 1 grade, 7d; No. 2, 6d; No. 3, sd; with very little inquiry. Pigs.—For good quality, id to 4£d. Roosters, 3s 6d to 4s; hens, 2s 3d to 2s 6d; ducks, 3s 6d to 4s 6d per pair. These quotations are for prime quality.
