HIGH SCHOOLS BOARD OF GOVERN ORS.
The regular monthly meeting of the Olago High Schools Board of Governors was continued on the 6th, there being present — Dr Brown (chairman), Messrs J. R. Sinclair, J. M. Gallaway, and G. G. Russell.
It was decided, in connection with the sale of the Strath-Taieri runs, which it was intended should be held on the 13th inst., that the sale should be postponed to the first week in September.
A letter was read from the Hon. Secretary of the Union street School Gymnasium Comn.ittee asking the board's patronage to a- gymnasium entertainment. It was agreed to comply with the request. The board deferred the appointing of a valuer.
_ The secretary and chairman were authorised to settle the outstanding claim between the board and the Dunedin and Kaikorai Tram Company over the line being taken through the board's leasehold property at the rectory.
A letter was received from the Lady Principal of the Girls' . High School intimating that there was an increase of six pupils, two full boardere and two day boarders ; also suggesting that advertisements be inserted in the Dunedin and Christchurch newspapers for a full time teacher, with an M.A. degree. — The recommendation was agreed to, and the secretary instructed to insert the advertisements.
A letter was received from Mr J. D. Marks asking for the half-yearly instalment of the Gray Russell scholarship. — It was agreed to pay the same, as requested. • It was decided to request the board's solicitors to obtain an opinion regarding the taking of the Dunedin-Kaikorai tram line through the High School ground, and to advise as to the present position of the board in the matter.
