THE WOOL SALES. PRICES FIRMER.

LONDON", May 9. The wool sales had to be postponed to-day owing to a dense fog. At the wool scales the Otaio clip sold at lOd. May 10. To-day's was the best wool sale of the series. All classes are firmer. The sales close on the 19th inst. May 11. At the wool sales the following New Zealand clips were sold: — Ngapuke, 7£d ; Clyde, Is 9|d. Wool is firm, there being strong competition from all quarters. May 12. , At the wool sales there is spirited i general competition at full rates. At the wool sales the Kaiwarra (N.Z.) clip sold at llfd per lb. ; Referring to the rise in the price of wool, the Post estimates that on the basis of last year's clip the improvement means an increase of £570,000 to £600,000 in the value of a year's clip as compared with the prices of the previous sales. Part of the year's clip has already been realised, so that the benefit of the colony will not reach the above figures in the season, but they afford a fair measure of th« meaning of the rise now reported. Messrs Dalgety and Co. hay« received the following cable from their London office, dated lltli inst.: — "Sines our last telegram nrioflff af wool are on the average 5 per cent.
