THE VICTORIAN COMMISSIONERS.

The* Victorian. - Parliamentary Commissioners, returned to Dunedin on Saturday afternoon after a rapid 'tour through the interior of Ofcago, during "which, they managed to see a great many places and objects of interest. The party comprised i the' Hon. Air Best and Mr Trenwith (commissioners), Mr A. G. Brown (secretary to the commission), Mr Masling (the representative of the Melbourne Argus), and Mr : Grattan Grey (the representative of the ! Age). They left Dunedin on Tuesday last, i and were joined at Milton by Mr Carncross, J M.H.R., who went with them as far as ! Lawrence, where they were met by the '{ mayor of that place. At very short notice ■' Mr H. Craig found them a special coach, in which they travelled, and reached Mil- ! ler's Flat that evening. In the morning ! they saw the Golden Gate dredge, and also ! the Golden Run Pipes Sluicing Company's ' property. The same day they went on to Roxburgh and had a look over the Roxburgh Amalgamated Company's workings. Thence they sped onwards, arriving the : .same night at Alexandra. Next day was \ spent in visiting dredges at Alexandra and j Clyde, and they readied Cromwell on J Thursday evening. The same evening the Hon. Mr Best went on board the No. 2 Electric, and the next morning inspected the Lady Ranfurly dredge. The commissioners were received- by the Vincent CountyCouncillors at Clyde, and by the mayor afc Cromwell. From* Cromwell they weggf? to Queenstown, arriving at the shores of Waftatipu on Friday evening, leaving them { at Kingston early on Saturday morning, i and returning to Dunedin by the southern * express train. The commissioners were re- ; ceived kindly and courteously everywhere, ' and dredge masters and officials did all they ' could to give them the maximum of infor- i mation in the minimum of time. Messrs Be&t and Trenwith have been greatly < pleased with the scenery, though they were ' so busy as to have little time to admire it. j They are also quite satisfied with their re- j ception in all respects, and the Victorian | Minister for Lands made a very thorough investigation into the dredging and mining operations on behalf of his colleague the i Minister for Mines. * !
