FEILDING.
The attendance on Cup day at this meeting is Paid to have been a record for the course, and good racing was tho rule rather than the .exception. Seven speedy horses went out for the Flying, in which all but Marvellous got veil away. The Miller led and, stalling off the rushes of Aquatic and Sedgebrook, won by n pofk. Alpine made' the pace in the Kav •• Kawa Hurdles, but fell a victim to a 6hi!;i. ' accident. A man in the employ of the club, described in the local reports as a boundary rider — what on earth does the club want with a boundary rider? — cantered down ihe straight and bumped into the racehorse. Opinions differ as to the consequences of the result, one account stating that Alpine was dead beat when interfered with, another : »t'tiibuting Alpine's defeat to the occurrenc". Whichever be correct, Alpine was unlucky, as he rose to the last hurdlo in company with tho other pair, and it is satisfactory to learn that the misguided boundary rider. was promptly' ordered off the course. The Taonui Hack Hurdles produced a great race. Derry winning all out by a head. The Cup went to Uhlan, who won the Auckland Cup this year. The son of Aida went to tho front as soon as tho taoes were raised, and led past the stand, with Light. Toa and Rubin in close attendance in the order named. At the back stretch Light took the lead, but did not retain that position long, for into the straight Toa went to the front, with Rubin close up. Toa looked a likely winner, but when half-way down the straight Russell brought his mount along in great style, and after a fine finish secured a victory by a neck. Rubin being a head away third. On the second day the Easter Handicap produced a very fine finish. Bush Rose, the firßt to ahow in front, was almost at once supplanted by Light, who remained in tht lead, under pressure, till nearing\the straight, when Toa got into the lead. Percy White made a good run on Rubin when heads were turned for home, and in a race that took it all out of every horse engaged, the brother to Florrie got home by half a length. Two of the races at this meeting Were won by Pom Pom, whose coming to life had hardly been expected. As a two-year-old this son of Legera threatened danger to the best of his age. and though he has never fulfilled the promise of his oabyhood, he now bids fair to pull back some of the money which he has cost Mr Paul. Tho tc-talisator investments during the two days came to £10,391, aa against £9624 last year.
