TAIERI BEACH.

April G. — Eaßter has come and gone, and with a full complement of visitors from Dunedin and elsewhere who were desirous of enjoying a few days' rest and freedom " far from the madding crowd." The weather was simply delightful, and seldom has this picturesque little spot been seen to such advantage as during the past week. Social.— On Wednesday evening the Christian Endeavour social was held in the church. Among those present were the .Rev. Messrs Somerville and Fairxnaid (Kaitangata) and Mr Catherwood. Several musical items were contributed during the evening, and altogether the social was an unqualified success. The new hall was opened on Good Friday, and in the evening a concert and dance were held, tho proceeds of which, of course, went to the general funds of the hall. Several visitors from Dunedin kindly gave their assietance at the concert. There were among these a trio whoso contributions were designated " comic." "Where the comic element came in .most of tho audi-< enco failed to perceive, but as these gentlemen, seemed to be highlj amused themselves, doubtless the sense of humour has not developed sufficiently in the minds of the, simple country folk. During the interval a rußh was made down the hill, presumably to inspect a stock of basketware lately imported. Tho dance, I heard, waa a thorough success, the floor being all that could be desired.

Picnic— The Sunday school picnic was held on Easter Monday in Mr Livingstone's paddock. There was a goodly sprinkling o£ grown-ups^

-who joined in the games, etc., with quite as much appreciation as the children, and all thoroughly enjoyed themselves.
