WETHERNTONES.

April 3. — A good many of the farmers around here have had the thresher at work already. Tho crops are good, but, unfortunately, tho prices are low. Some intend to make chafi of their crop, thinking that it will p«y them better. It may in sorao cases. \Veather. — Tho weather during tho past two wesks has been muted — wind and some rain, but not enough of the latter for the miners. The first three" days were fine, wind S/W. to \V. ; for the rest of the weok I can only giva Dunedin weather, having been in town. Cup day was fine up to 4.30 p.m., when it became dull and cold. In the evening there *»s a rough N.E. wind and showers. The next day the rain kept off long enough for the races ..o be finished, and then it rained at night, -niiiA N. to N.E. Friday, the 2-lth, was showery in tho morning, dull "and foggy through the day to 6 p.m., when there was thunder and & heavy shower. I was told that there w«i thun der at Tuapeka, but not much rain. The next day was dull and foggy, and I got home at night. The 2Gth March .raa fine all day, and during the forenoon of the next day, wind N.E. to N. Later there was a. light -shower, and afterwards ft galo of wind from N.E., lasting all night and part of next .day — the equinoctial gales, I think. After a shower of rain tho wind went down. Except a fevr light showers, the rest of the week was fine, wind S.W i.o W. and N.E. The Ist of April waa a beautiful day, frosty in the morning, and warm and near calm all tho rest of tho day. Th.? barometer was low on the 23th (23.5J3), but nothing cams of it. It has been rising slowly since. On Saturday evening it stood at 29.70. The lowest reading of tho thermomete: was 47deg, at 7 a-m. on April 1, and the highest 83clejr. at noon of the same day ; while at Lawrence, out in th» street and in the sun, it was 92deg. The few days tha(>l was in Dunedin I took notice that there is not tho same- extremo range of he«, v and cold that there is here.
