Board have shown that they are in earnest^ and intend to do the work that they as members are expected to do. The Road Board have had some difficulties to contend with, and from, some quarters least expected, but narrowmindedness and personal jealousies have a lot to answer for. At present the proposed road line is being surveyed by Government, and we are in hopes of at last getting this muchneeded road constructed. At present when wo go to Portobello.or Dunedin we have to consult the tides, as we do not always care to wade three or four miles through a few feet of- water all the way.

Entertainment. — A magic lantern entertainment was held in the Otakou Wesleyan Church to raise funds for circuit debt. The attendance was not very large, but Mr Nordgren showed some excellent pictures and views, and by his original remarks caused the evening to pass very pleasantly. The pictures comprised views of New Zealand and Swiss scenery, Diamond Jubilee procession, pictures of ancient and modern Rome, towns oi Palestine, the fiords of Norway, and a lot more views of places which were lucidly described as being somewhere in Europe. During the evening .Mi Greenslade gave a reading entitled " The Road to Heaven," while Mr Nordgren manipulated the slides illustrating the story. Passed Away.— This morning Lydia Russell, the seven-year-old daughter ot Abnei Russell, died at the residence of Mr Edmonds, at whose place she had been residing for several months. The little girl had been very ill for several weeks. The child was a great favourite with her schoolmates, and much sympathy is felt for -the parents and relatives of the little one. .
