April 10. — Some wcekß ago our teacher, Mr J. F. Botting, was promoted to the Leith Valley School, and before leaving was entci tamed at a social held at the school, and pre*. ,=d with a small puree of sovereigns, and Mi Hotting with a handsome clock, as a token of esteem from, the residents. Owing to the falling attendance at the school, a mistress instead of a master has ben appointed, the successful applicant, out of 27 applications, being Miss L. Evans, of Springvale School, near Alexandra, Church. — The Wesleyan missionary here, Mr W. Greenslade, having been accepted for the ministry, has just left to continue his studies at Three Kings College, Auckland. Before leaving a social entertainment was given at the church' to bid him good-bye and to welcome to his successor, Mr Belton, of Mosgiel. A very pleasant .evening was spent, the Rev. T. G. Brooke presiding, Mi Nordgreen adding to the amusement with his magic lantern slides. Hymeneal. — I note with pleasure the marriage, at Calcutta, of Miss Bacon, of the Natf Zealand Baptist Mission. She is a native of the Bay, and much esteemed here. Before leaving for India, some six or seven years ago, she was a nurse ior several years in the Dunedia Iln-i-ilei All here wish Mr and Mrs Barry a iwfu! life aud much happiness.
