OTAGO ART SOCIETY.

The annual meeting of the Otago Art Society was" held yesterday afternoon in the Council Chamber, Town Hall Buildings. Mr L. W. Wilson (the vice-president) occupied the chair, and there were present: Mrs Hocken. Mrs Woodhouse, Mrs M'lndoe, Mrs R. Fisher Miss Wimporis, Miss Hodgkins, JII6S Fitchett. Miss Richmond, Miss Landells, Dr Scott, Dr Hocken, and Messrs Lloyd, ' While, R. S. Smith, David Hutton, and Hayward.

ANNUAL REPOHT. Professor Scott presented the annual re port, which was as follows:

Tho society now numbers 156 members, and of these 112 belong to the \yorking division. Tho financial position is also satisfactory, the balance sheet showing that a sum of over £G1 is to the credit of the society, while pictures to

the value of JELO4O are deposited in the Public Art Gallery. The last exhibition was more than usually satisfactory, and showed a large preponderance of works in water-colour and pastel. The number of figure subjects was also large. A loan collection of 87 water-colours by the late Mr W. M. Hodgkins was hung in the side room, and proved a most attractive and interesting feature of the exhibition. A number of valuable pictures and studies by British artists j were also lent for exhibition. The art union realised £55 2s 6d. The silver medals offered by the council have been awarded as follows: — For a landscape study from Nature, J. F. Scott ; for a study of a head, Mrs J. G. Rollo Fisher. No award was made in the poster competition, and no still-life studies were seat. in. The medal presented to the Girls' High "School was won by Miss M. Macdonald. Tho council offers its grateful thanks -to all those whe helped to make the exhibition a success by the loan of pictures. The report was adopted without discussion. ELECTION OF OFFICERS. The Chairman proposed that Mr George Joachim be elected president for the ensuinpj year. This was seconded and carried unanimously. On the motion of Mr White. Professor Scott was re-elected secretary, and Mr J. White was re-elected treasurer. The following ladies and gentlemen were then nominated and elected as the council for the ensuing year: — Mrs Hocken, Mrs M'lndoe, Mrs Woodhouse, Miss Hodgkins, Mr R. S. Smith, Mr D. E. Hutton, Dr Roberts, Mr A. Wilson, Mr J. Burnside, and Mr A. Hamilton. Mr T. S. Graham was re-elected auditor, and the proceedings closed with a vote of thanks to tho mayor and council for the use of the room..
