ADDINGTON STOCK MARKET. (Per United Press Association.)

CHRISTCHURCH, January 18.

The entries at Addington znarkot to-day numbered 14,000 sheep and lambs, 475 head cattle, and 188 pigs. Fat Cattle. — A mixed yarding, comprising 224 head, proved too much for trade reqiurementa, and there was a drop of Is per 1001b. North Island bullocks, £8 to £8 15s ; Canterbury steers, £5 5s to £Q 10s ; heifers, £3 5b to £5 10b ; cows, £3 5s to £& ss. Per 1001b : Good to prime, 16s to 17s; other, down to 12s Cd. Fat Sheep.— Fully 8000 came to hand. Good straight lines (freezers) met with keen competition at from 12s to 14s lid; unfinished lines, down to 11s. There were .too many ewes for the trade, and an irregular sale, many being taken by graziers. Best heavy sorts, 10a to 12b 9d ; medium, 8s to 9s 6d ; and others, down to 6s.

Fat Lambs. — Just upon 5000 in, including several good lineß. The market waa somewhat upset by a. cable that the London market for prime Canterbury lamb opened at 4jd, and buyers tried to buy on this basis; but, failing to do bo, raised their limits, and, although several lines are going to the factory on owners'account, last week's rates were upheld for besfc, but others were weakened by 6d to 9d. Pigs. — A small yarding, and a good demand for fats on the basis of 3id per Id.

Mr Albert Vallis, organist of St. Joseph's Cathedral, has been granted nine months' leave of absence, and purposes leaving at an early date for Europe.

Mr A. J. M'Credie, resident engineer of railways in Wellington, has been transferred, to Invercargill, and Mr Macandrew (Invercargill) goes to Wellington.
