Bright and attractive as ever, the Windsor Magazine for September offers na the rare delight of a story from Brete Harte's pen. " Pharos the Egyptian," continues to provide us with mysterious excitements. Mr Harry Furmss gives his observations, pictorial and otherwise, on "Manly, the Brighton of Australia." "With Nansen in the North," rendered doubly attractive by its spirited illustrations; "Soldiers on Cycles," the conclusion of "Jennie Baxter, Journalist," together with fiction, quaint articles, and good illustrations, make up an excellent and typical number. Austral Light for- October opens with an interesting and practical article by Dr M'Gee on "Infection and Disinfection," the text of which is that of a lecture delivered at St. Patrick's College, Melbourne, and in the general ignorance and indifference which prevails on stich matters we may welcome the publication of such a lecture. Poetry is somewhat of a feature in the current number, also, and it is only fair to add that some of it is remarkably good. Other articles, the serial tale, an appreciative memorial, ." A Nineteenth Century Aloysius," book notices — including the " History of Australia and New Zealand " for Catholic Schools — and News Notes, all contribute towards an excellent number.
