CHARITABLE AID BOARD.
Tbs regular meeting of the Charitable 4.id Board was held on .Thursday afternoon and was attended by Messrs Chisholm (chairman), Bcgg, Fisher, Baxter, Wilson, Samson, Clark, Hazlett, Haynes, Green, and Miller. • In connection with the establishment of a reformatory the committee appointed in the matter reported as follows: — " That the multipli< ity of separate institutions is not desirable, and that the object sought iv tbe resolution of the W.C. Temperance "Union, Punedin branch, forwardeJ by their secretary, would be better gained by legislation in the direction of extended powers to the controlling bodies of existing institutions." Mr Miller thought this was exactly what was -wanted. The matter had been fairly discussed at last meeting. They bad enough of institutions already, and all that was wanted was sx1 ended powers. He moved the adoption o? the report. This was seconded by Mr Haynes, and carried vnanimously. The Benevolent Institution's claim for the month was £800.— The Secretary mentioned that there remained JE3500 to cover the remaining five months.— The Chairman said that the trustees had exceeded their estimate by about £250, but £700 per month would keep them within their estimate for the remainder of the year. The requisition was passed for payment. The requisition from the Female Befuge wag £6, and this was also passed for payment. The sum of £106 18s 6d for the quarter was passed for payment to St. Mary's Industrial School, Nelson. The quarter's requisition from the Auckland Industrial School (£4 4s 6d) was also passed. The quarterly claim by the Caversham Industrial School, amounting to £698 lls lid, was passed for payment, and the sum of £100, the estimated expenses of the board for the year, approved. It was resolved that the levy on contributing bodies should be payable by the 81st inst.— Mr Miller mentioned, in this connection that all the bodies had paid up except the Clutifa. — A computation, showed that the levy would amount in the total to £6093 2s, which, with, the subsidy, would reach £12,186 4s. Of this amount the Benevolent Institution absorbs £9000. HOSPITAL BOAED. The Hospital Board then met, and was attended by Messrs Chisholm (chairman), Begg, Miller, Wilson, Clark, Samson, Haynes, and Green. The Hospital Trustees' claim for the month", amounting to £450, was passed for payment, and the estimate of £100, for the board's expenses for the year, approved. A similar resolution to that passed by the Charitable Aid Board, concerning the levy, was carried, the amount raised thereby, together with subsidy, being £5250 2s, of which sum £5150 is payable during the year to the Hospital Trustees, the remaining £100 2s being for board expenses.
