OTEPOPO.

October 5. — The Athensum Committee were unfortunate in having very wet weather for their bazaar last Friday and Saturday — beautiful sunahme before and after. However, everything went with a good swing, and nothing could clyjiip the amour of thosa engaged. At 2 o'clock on Friday the Rev. A. D. Thomson, with a few appropriate words, declared the bazaar opened. The names of the workers and assistants are too numerous to mention. The stalls were tastefully decorated, and laid out on each side of the building. One end of the building was taken up by the produce stalls and side shows. The latter comprised a galvanic battery, weighing machine, weight-guessing competition, shooting gallery, draughts competition, ladies' nail-driving exhibition, graphophone, and wild pig show. The Christmas tree was dressed in a very artistic manner. On Saturday night a short but entertaining concert was held, winding up with a side-splitting farce entitled "The Musical Monomaniac." The gross proceeds were £71 19s, and no doubt would have been much larger had the weather been fine. Draughts. — Our Draught Club closed its 1898 season last Monday with a veiy sociable evening, and can congratulate themselves on having an unbeaten record for the year. Prizes were distributed to the winners of the tournament, the following being their names : — W. Forbes 1, D. Forbes, T. Foweraker, and J. R. Forbes (equal). Salvation Army. — The Army are in full swing with their self-denial work. We wish them every success.
