DUNBACK.

October 3. — The season sq far has been very favourable, only a trifle too cold. There has been a good deal of mm, and the crops are now groTring well. Sowing is all but finished now. It has been going on almost without interruption since April. A large area has been put in crop in this district. Bunny. — Rabbit trapping is still beiag carried on, and some are making good wages at it yet. The canning works, as part of C. W. Anderson's bankrupt estate, are to be sold on Wednesday, the sth. Messrs Tonkin and Co., who have been purchasers of rabbits here, ceased buying on Saturday, as they consider the season too far advanced for exporting. Cricket. — The first cricket match of the season between the Green Valley and Dunback Clubs was played here on the 24th, *and resulted in a win foi the Dunback Club by 24 runs in a two-innings match. Ross (captain) was top scorer for Green Valley, his score being- 20; and Messrs Rice (captain) 13, and D. B. Murray 19 (not out), were the highest for Dunback. First Aid. — The ambulance class is to be commenced on Wednesday, 12th inst., at 7.30 p.m. The delay in starting was due to Dr Hislop being unable to come up until he was finished with the Palmerston class. It is to be hoped that a good number will avail them- 1 selves of the chance to get instruction of a kind that may be of great use in a country place, where it may bo probably a number of hours before a doctor could reach the scpne of an accident. M.U.I.O.O.F.— The Royal Dunback Lodge celebrated the anniversary of tho lodge by holding a social or Cinderella dance on the 16th ult. There was a good number present, and a very eniovabia evening was BDent.

Music was supplied 'by Mr J. Philip (violin), and Bro. J. Murray acted as if.C Some of the ladies of the district gave the members of the lodge an agreeable surprise by providing an abundant supply of refreshments. Bro. J. Murray, on behalf ot the lodge, thanked the ladies for their unexpected donation. Soc al. — The choir social was held in the Eichoolhouse on the 26th ult. There was a very gratifying attendance, and the affair was a great success. The Rev. Panton Brown occupied the chair. Several hymns were sung by the choir tinder the leadership of Mr Beveridge, which were well received, and the choir were complimented on the progress made. A solo, '• The beautiful city," was contributed by Miss Rendall, and Mrs Dalgleish _and Miss Bella Coopor contributed a duet, " liittle Mary." A quartet " Though your pins be scarlet," was rendered by Mrs Dalgleish, Miss B. Cooper, and Messrs Battersby and £>. Philip. Several selections were given by Miss O'Neill (piano), Messrs Beveridge and J Philip (violins), and Cooper (piccolo). Songs were also contibuted by Mrs Mills, Miss O'Neill, and Mr Battersby. Itecitations were given by Messrs Curaberbeach and Sim. During the evening a liberal supply oi refreshments were handed round by the ladies. At the conclusion of the programme, Mr Battersby, on behalf of the choir, presented Mr Beveridge with the takings at the door, as a mark of theii appreciation of his instruction, which was given gratis. Votes of thanks to tho ladies, proposed by Mr D. Philip; the performers, proposed by Mr Ritchie; and the chairman, proposed by Mr J. Murray, brought a most enjoyable evening to a close.
