Messrs Carmichael Bros again topped the market at £12 15s, theii animals being really prime, and worth looking at. Fat Sheep. — 2185 permed, only a fair proportion of which were really prime, but these had good inquiry and sold at last week's rates, other descriptions showing a little falling off. M'Cann (Allanton), 5 at 24s to 235; Mr Walter Blackis (Glasgow Farm), 5 afc 14s. Country Sales. — Maclean and Co. report haring held their usual fortnightly sale at Balclutha o>i Friday. There was an extra attendance of buyers, and being mostly fairly eagji: for business, a good sale was the result, all lots offered finding buyers at full rates. We sold sheep, lambs, pigs, and cattle on behalf ot the following owners at satisfactory prices* — > Messrs Josiah Keys (Toiro), J. Sarginson and Son (Toiro), It. Tulloch (Balclutha), R. .darker (Stirling), John A&kie (Stirling), W. Harvia (Balclutha), R. Meikle (Otanomonio), "i. Twaddle (Kakapuwaka), James Fahey (Milburn), and Mrs Harvey (Stirling) Dalgiiy and Co. (Limted) report having held their fortnightly sale at Balclutha on Friday, i9tli inst., when they yarded 1494 sheep and 10 head cattle. There was fi very good demand for hoggets, forward-conditioned wethers, and ewes, , and the whole of their entry found buyers at the following rates : — Fat wethers, 14s 9d to 13s 4d ; do ewes, 13s 3d ; forward-conditioned wethers, 10s 6d to 13s; hoggets, 7s 6d to 8s 9d; ewes, aged (in lamb), 8s 9d. Half-fat steers, £5 17a 6d. The Farmers' Agency Co. (Limited) held their usual sale at Clinton on the 18th inst, when there was a good attendance of farmers and others. The demand for hoggets and w&thers was good, and everything sold under th« hammer as follows — 280 hoggets at 9s, 250 at 8s 7d. 180 wethers at 13s lid, 58 at 12s 9d, 45 a& lls 6d, 88 at 9s 7d, 22 at 7s 9d, 489 lambs at 7s 9d, 252 at 9s, 20 at 5s Id Sheepskins and Rabbitskins. — The usual sales continue to attract a full attendance of thetrades, and all lots find ready sale at full rato3. Tallow Fat. — Whenever care is taken by the owner to see tbut only fat is sent loiwarcl and in good condition, selling is comparatively easy, and at full value, but there is a tendency to pack rubbish, and this only causes friction and bad prices. Hides. — The demand is keen, and with good competition there is a chance of obtaining value, and all lots in decent condition are readily taken at up to 4d per lb for full weights. Wheat. — There is no change to report. Oats. — There has been a better inquiry during the past few days, and sales have been effected at 2s to 2s 2d for prime shipping lines; seed samples being worth more money, but they move slowly. Potatoes. — Information from Australia concerning shipments to Manila caused quite a flutter in our own market, and prices quickly firmed on late rate 3, but they have not yet reached highest point touched a few weeks 'go. Prime Derwents are worth £6 15s, odd special lots to £7. Chaff. — Supplies of medium quality continue to arrive rather freely, and tend to keep prices down. Prime lots are easily placed at .£3 7a 6d to £3 10s, with occasionally £3 12s 6d for something very nice.

Millers have not yet coin inenc'ed to operate, and milling wheat, therefore is practically unsaleable. There is a fair de maud for chickwheat, which realises from 2s 9c to 3s 3d per bushel. The following are nomina quotations: — Prime Tuscan and red sorts, 4i io 4s 4d; prime velvet, 4s 4d to 4s 6d; chick •wheat (whole), 2s 9d to 3s 3d per bushel (of .trucks, Dunedin, sacks in, teims). Oats. — A good inquiry exists for all feed lines and the quantity offering is hardly sufEcien for buyers' requirements, the bulk of stocks be ing held by owners for higher rates. We quote : Good to best feed, 2s 2d to 2s 2£d; fair to me clium, 2s Id to 2s ljd ; discoloured and inferior Is 9d to 2s; milling, 2s 3d to 2s sd; long Tar tariah and duns, 2s 5d to 2s 9d per bushe. Barley. — Market remains firm at last quotationSj which we repeat as follows : — Prime malt ing, 4s 9d to 5s Id ; fair to medium, 4s 3d to 4e 8d; feed and milling, 2s 6d to 3s 6d per bushe! (sacks extra, 'net). Chaff. — The quantity arriving during the week has been on a smaller scale, and the market has recovered slightly. Prime chaff is id good demand, but inferior, discoloured, and badly-cut parcels are difficult to place. We quote: Prime oaten sheaf, £3 10s; extra prim.?, to £3 12s 6d; good, £3 5s to £3 7s 6d per ton (ex truck, sacks extra, net). Potatoes. — Prices for these have advanced 10s per ton since we last reported, and prime Do---wents are to-day worth £7 to £7 2s 6d (off trucks, Dunedin, bags in, net). Seeds. — We hold very large stocks of clovers, grasses, turnip seed, etc., specially selected, and of splendid quality. Samples and quotations on application. Guano. — The brigantine Jasper has just arrived with a full cargo of guano from Lady Ililliott Island and we are in a position to supply ihis at lowest current rates.
