THE SOUDAN ADVANCE.

CAIRO, August 22. _ In connection with the advance of Sir H. Kitchener's force from Atbara a transport train and convoy have reached the advanced camp of Makawiyeh after a four days' trying inarch through a devastated district. The Khalifa is determined to fight, and it is reported that he is killing all the Jaslin tribesmen who are trying to desert Mm. August 23. Sir H. H. Kitchener's force is now concentrated at Wady Hamed. The health of the troops is excellent. Metemneh is in a state of absolute desolation. The streets are full of corpses, and the houses in ruins. The Khalifa has been experimenting with submarine mines, and succeeded in blowing up one of his oavh steamers.
