PERSIA AND ABYSSINIA.
London, August 6. Mr Curzon, Under-secretary for Foreign 'Affairs, in the House of Commons, said the Persian loan had been abandoned by a bank, a British institution, as it was not prepared •with so large a sum as was required by - Persia. The Government had no informatior about Russian threats, but rumours had reached him that Russia desired to lease a port on the Persian Gulf. He could not ;-ay if the rumours ay ere true. St. Petersburg, August 6. The Novoe Vremya states that King , Menelit of Abyssinia has ceded Russia a
protectorate over Rahorta Bay. The - Italian newspapers claim that the territory belongs to Italy.
