ADDINGTON STOCK MARKET.

CHRISTCHURCH, August 10.

Amongst the entries at Addington to-day were some very choice consignments of fat stock, for which thero was very keen competition amongst the local butchers, who vied with each other in attempting to securo a good display for the holidays. The attendpnee was laige, including visitors from all parts of the co'ony. Pat Cattle.— The yarding (105 head), though smaller than usual, was nearly all prime beef, there being very little else on offer. Bidding was extremely keen, and a- thorough clearance? was made at an advance per 1001b. A very nice consignment of 12 steers brought £8 5s to £12 10s, 14 from Hawke's Bay £8 7s 6d to £12, and 7 from Palmerston North £8 15s to £12 ss. Ordinary to good steers brought £6 5s to £9 10s, do heifers £4 10s to £9 7s 6d, cows £4 7s 6d to £7. Per 1001b, extra choice ran from 22s to 24s Gd, prime 18s to 21s, ordinary to good 15s to 17s 6d. Fat Sheep. — The yarding was a large one, including some extremely prime heavy weights, a,U of which met very keen competition, and some of Mr Mas Friedlander's Hampshire down wethers brought as much as 52s 6d. There were very few handy weight freezers in. but the very best sorts met with keen competition, as did also any really prime heavy weight ewes, but inferior and unfinished ports suffered a decline. Quotations are . Prime heavy-weight wsthers, 21s to 30s; best freezers, lGs to 20s ; medium do, 14s to 15s 6d ; inferior and mixed sexes, 11s to 13s, best heavy-weight ewes, 15s to 18s 6d , medium do, 12s to 14a , jnferior, down to 8s 6d ; merino wethers, 11s to 17s 4d.

The 'fat hoggets were an inferior lot, £>nd sold at from 6s to 10s. The few early lambs which came forward were scarcely so good a.s at the Grand National market last year, but they met good competition. Among them vnc 8 from Mr Wash bourne (Sclwyn), which averaged 15s Cd, selling at from lis to 21s.

Pigs.— Another small entry, mostly oi fat sorts. Tho demand was scarcely so keen. Porkers averaged 4^d to 4£d, and baconers ad to 4Jd per Ib.

The entries were. Bßl4 sheep, 210 cattle, 221 pigs.
