BENEVOLENT INSTITUTION TRUSTEES.

The weekly meeting of the Benevolent Institution Trustees, held oa the afternoon of the 13th, was attended by Messrs A. Solomon (chairman), C. Allan, P. Treseder, R. Watson, R, Wilson, and H. Gourley. Accounts amounting to .£219 19s 5d were passed for payment. The treasurer submitted the draft balance sheet for the year ending March 31, 189 S. The receipts showed a total of £10,874 3s 2d, the principal amounts being interest on mortgages, £248 ; cent account, £434 9s 6d ; receipts on account of inmates, £206 4s 10.1 ; contributions, £344 153 2d ; Government subsidy, £6CJ 19a Id ; and United District Board, £8:00. The expenditure amounted to £10,736 163 7d, the chief items being outdoor relief, £6026 9s 3d ; groceries, meat, &c , £2410 10s lid ; salaries and wages, £609 14s lOd : clothing, £275 5s lOd : fuel, £249 35s 8d ; insurance, &c, £164 3s 7d ; transferred to new laundry account, £478 3s lid ; aid unemployed relief works, £26 14s. The bank balance at the end of the year was £137 63 7d, as against £514 2s 5d at the commencement of the year. The expenditure in connection with the Caversham Institution extension was shown to be £1178 3a lid.

Mr Edward Richards, of Sunnydale, North* East Valley, wrote stating that as the result of collections at united Jubilee services there would be £20 to spend in books for the library of the Bsnevolent Institution, and asking for a catalogue of the books at present in the library. — The offer was accepted with thanks. Thirty-four relief cases were dealt with.
