Betting : 6 to 4 on Battalion, 2 to 1 agst Mirella, 10 to 1 the others. A good start was effected. Battalion and Carabine were the first to move. The former going up at the back increased his lead to the sheds, where Mirella closed. Battalion led into the straight. A great race home ensued, Mirella decreasing the distance every stride, bufc Battalion won by a neck. Time, 2min 37sec. 1 Influenza 6.12, Ace of Diamonds 6.12, War God 6.7, Ronda 6 7. Betting : 6 to 1 agsfe Syerla, 8 to 1 Ace of Diamonds, 10 to 1 Talavera, 12 to 1 Merloolas, Vedette, True Blus, and Influenza. Vedette was the firsb to show in front, Amberite' going up at the seven furlongs, with Syerla and Vedette in close attendance. At six furlongs Amiable still ran in front, with Syerla handy, Vedette having fallen back. At fche sheds Vedette moved up into the lead half a length ahead of Syerla, with Amiable and Ace of Diamonds coming fast on the outside. At the turn Syerla was two lengths in front of Sailor i Boy, and Vedette next. At the St. Leger stand Syerla vras still leading, and Mei'looku moved into second place, Tramp then coming through. They finished thus, Syerla having tkree lengths to spare. Zeno, Vedette, and Ace of Diamonds were nexfc, in the order named. Time, lmin 40£ sec. St. Leger Stakes, of SOsovs each, with 300sovs added ; second lOOsovs from the stake and third horse saves his stake. One mile and three-quarters. Mr W. Bobadil was ficst away, followed by Cooos, but the favourite out-distanced the field at every stride and won by »ix lengths. Time, lmin 13Jsec. Betting : <?■ to 1 agst Amberite and Merloolae, 7 to 1 The Grafter, 8 to 1 Syexla, 12 to 1 Battalion and Cravat, 14- to 1 Betsy and Plutus, 25 to 1 Wargod. Bitfcalion and Sketch were first away to a good siart. At the turn Plutus, Merloolas, and Sketch closed up with the leaders. At the stand, going slow, Battalion led, with Merloolas, ■Plutus, and Betsy next:. Going out of the straight Merloolas led by a length from Battalion and Plutus. Al Oxenham's Merloolas i i increased his lead by five lengths from Plutug, j then came Battalion and Sketch, two lengths • away. Along the back the Queensland h./r?a improved his lead, Wargod going up itito second place, PJutus aud Battalion a length off, with Ambente and Loch Leigh in close attendance. At the sheds Warded erepi up, wi'h Flutus, Br.tlal on, and Amberite to^ebher a couple of leDgchs away at the turn. Wargod was four lengths behind Merloolas. The latter, entering the straight, went a bit wide, bufc recovered afc the St. Lsger stand, where Amberifce, on the rail, caught Wargod, and Battalion fell away, Marloolas winning by three lengths.
