ROXBURGH.
April 11. — In our immeaiate vicinity the holiday season has passed very quietly, there being not even a cricket match or shooting contest to break the monotony. Private picnics are the order of to-day (Easter Monday), and to-night the annual social will be held at the hall, under the auspices cf the Roman Catholic congregation. This event is looked forward to with pleasure every year, and bids fair to be as successful as usual this evening. The town and district are deserted to-day, our people having divided their patronage between the Beaumont races and the Clyde cycling sports.
Recessional.— Tbe Hon. Mr Larnach speaks here at the hall to-morrow evening, and he will likely have a large audience to hear him. He has been speaking at other centres up country, and has had, I hsai 1 , a good reception. He will arrive in Roxburgh to-night. Wedding.— The marriage or Miss Sophia Toms, daughter of Mr Harry Toms, of Coal Creek, to Mr Thomas Michell, also of Coal Creek, which took place last Weduesday at the residence of the bride's father, created a deal of local interest, the parties being members of two old families in the district. The wedding was a quiet one, and the ceremony was performed by the Rev. R. Telford. After the wedding breakfast the happy pair left for Christchurch, wbere the honeymoon is to be spent.
Otago Witness Supplement.— There is nothing but praise of the Witness Supplement and Chronological Record in this district. The large number of splendid photos and illustrations, as well as the reading matter and index will render it invaluable as a work of reference iv years to come, and most people haie intend to preserve it for that purpose. Your agents here inform me that they could not supply all the orders they had.
Rabbits.— The nimble bunny is likely to have a lively time of it here for a while to come. Two firms are now on the spot buying— Messrs Tonkin and Co. and R. S. Black, and both have entered into contracts for a large supply for freezing purposes with local rabbiters. The rabbiters expect to make substantial cheques. The Hellers —This company paid Roxburgh a return visit on Thursday evening after a very successful night at Miller's Flat. On their second night here they again drew a good audience, giving a change of programme. The Hellers are established favourites here, and as their entertainment is always highly amusing and refined they may at any time look forward to good houses at Roxburgh.
