PATEAROA.
April 12.— Two of our youug men, Messrs Sam Dyke and T. H. Udy, left for Coolgardie lasjt Friday, and were accorded a tevpsichoreau sendoff. Good luck to them.
It is an 111 Wind, Etc.— As the starting of a rabbit-preserving factory within a few miles of this place has put it within the power of anyone who may be so inclined to make a little hay while the moon shines, the chance of doing go has been eagerly seized by a good many of our young men, and as the price offered— 6d per pair— is one that admits of the makir-g of a tidy cheque, that alluring and locally unaccustomed goal is being zealously striven for by our trappers. There are a great many rabbits in. this and the surrounding districts at present. In the course of a month or two they will mostly be in tins.
Christian Endeavour Society.— On the night of Good Friday a social was held in the local schoolroom, at which a number of the Naseby ilmleavou'-eis were present and conducted the meeting. The Rev. J. M'Cosh Smith, M.A., pieisident of tbe Naseby society, was in the chair. Mr Barrett opened the programme with an address on " The Value of Personal Testimony," which he gave in clear a-nd simple language and in an earnest manner. Capable addresses were also given by Messrs Mooi'e, Kirby, and Botting, their restsective subjects being "Repentance," "The Book," and " Following Christ." Misa M'Carthy spoke veiy conviccingly on "Influence," and the chairman, in the course of his address on " Wisdom," gays several apt illustrations of his subject in the way of amedotes. Two vocal duets were nicely given, one, " Behold me standing at the door, by Miss Black and Mrs Francis ; the other, " Only waiting," by Mrs Kivby and Mrs Botting. The latter lady was the organist during the evening.
