S. M. sends his experience in dealing «-th the sparrow. He apparently advocates continuous and general shooting to kill or frighten away the pest. The English thrush he also finds troublesome, and deals with them in the same way. He says :—": — " I killed 17 of them in one week, and that put a set on tb.'ir eating my strawberries." James Watson, Waitati, takes exception to. the sfc^temeift that the ship Sevilla arrived here ia 1853. He says that he came out in her on. her maiden trip under Captain Keir, that ha kept a diary, and that the enflSes show that the vessel sailed from Goutoek o.i February 19, 1859, and that after a passage of 104 days they landed at Port Chalmers on the night of Thursday, December 1, 1859.
