OUR VOLUNTEERS.
At their range on Thursday morning the Port Chalmers Navals fired a return match with the N Battery, Lyttelton. As will be seen by the scores the local team came out victors. The visitors, who had only arrived the night previous, were considerably handicapped by having co come nway with a very weak team. The situation of this range is badly adapted for morning shooting, the sun shining over the top of the island making it very hard to discern the target, consequently the scores were very erratic. Conditions, seven shots at 300 and 500 yards. Scores:—
On Saturday afternoon the second and final competition to decide the holders of the District Champion Bugle fo? the present year was fired afc Pelicheb Bay range. The conditions were : 10 men a- side from each of the corps in the district ; seven shots and sight-era at 300 and 500 yards. In the previous competition the Port Chalmers Navals held a lead of 1 point from the Duuedin Navala, the North Dunediu Rifles being only 2 points behind. On Saturday the Port men increased their lead, and were returned the winners by 11 points over the Nqi'lU ttuusaitt Rifles, At the conclusion s£
the match, Captain Smith (City Guards) announced the resuib and called for three cheers for the winners, which was heartily responded to by those present.
