LONDON WOOL SALES.

FURTHER SOUXD ADVANCE. (From Oojk Special Correspondent.) London, January 28. Naver, I think, has one seen Colenoan Street . Wool Exchange to better advantage than • during the pasb week. Every day's sale seems to have increased iv life atid spftib, aiid with a greater disposition to operate on the part of all sections of buyers, competition haa.beeu exceedingly active, the initial advance of 5 por cent. " having now developed into a 10 to 15 p&r cent, for good middling pa-esls. Tho situation speclalife^ shew.* that the very bes*; superior Western Vio'.oriaii clip's have rn.\de from In to Is 6d per 1b in lbs grensy si> tt». which c*n only be'styliii '■ xcptionally high figures. Respecting th«j ni >ro general run of the article, all middling to fair greasy combirg within the range of 7^d to B£d last time must now bo quoted Id io l£d dearer, whilst oa the lower range al..a 1 .. si<i to 6d the improvement it about fc-'Coureds of fair to good body are from 1-gd to 21 higher, tho advance on wools quoted, "last lime a*. Is Ogd to Is l£rl being perhaps most pronounce 1 ?. Pieces and locks at 1? to Is 3d have commanded a lnrge share of attention at the full advance. Lambs ara 10 p?r cent, dearer. Crossbred wools have during the week furnished a better assortment both Victorians and New Zealand's, and have elicited bzisker competition than was anticipated. Some grades may be ca'led £il to Id dearer, and the same remark applies to briguD coarse grades of good length ; but middliog lots, if thort and wantiog in f>tyle, are not more than aboufc -£d up. Siipec! paresis have attracted increased iaq'iiry, without, however, being quob&bly deirer. Th^x « have a!so been some good offerings o? Wcstfi-t! Australian wools, which have realis:d a half yeimy advance. Souih African wools as a whole hava not shown a uniform improvement. Wfll-conrli-tioued best combing grease wools are id to £d dearer, bui short, heavy, wasiy Jobs aie stationary. Super snow whites bring -k \ more money, both eastern and' western. It is very remarkable that sorae very heavy bujing all through the week has baeii done by tbe good numbe- of American buyers present, all wools of the best light shrinkage descriptions being eagerly taken. No striking developments have marked the course of the Home market for wool during the pasb week. The trade all round seems, however, to derive considerable encouragement from a variety of circumstances, calculated to create a decidedly hopeful feeling regarding the future. The firm and buoyant tone in London is quite a surprire in Yorkshire consuming centres, where really a quiet state of affairs prevail. Still on the Bradford market some considerable transactions have dating the week taken place/ auu

where holders have not been 100 exacting they could £dl at a farthing up from the bottom. But topmakers, especially, have raised their quotations, and spinners will net be tempted to speculate- The increased values are thus stopping business, bub stocks cannot be replaced unless at a greater advance than what users are prepared to pay. All English grades are very firm, and mohair is dearer. The following table shows the course of prices during the month, and the figures given represents the general asking prices of to-day :—: —
