Draughts Match. Maoris v. Kuropeans.
j i We are indebted to a northern friend for t&» ' following report :— A very interesting draughts match was played on March 11 at Mr C. Batt's restaurant, Wangauui, when the champions of the Maori race met to try conclusions for the second time with their white brothers. Fourteen boards were engaged, four game* being played at eich. As will be seen by the appended scores, the Europeans were victoiious, securing 29 games as against their opponents' 18, the remaining nine being drawn. DuriDg the evening the Maoris were entertained by their opponents, Mrs Batt and her assistants providing an abundance of appetising iight rctreshmeiits. Scores: —
