This was owing principally to the heavy charges of the matches plased ou the Athletic Park ground. The i j union intends to ask the New Zealand Union to allow a seven a-side tournament to be ,played for the purpose of defraying the expenses of ! the well-known intercolonial player M 'Kenzie, | who is in very bad health, and obliged to go to j the Hot Spring". •. • The Wellington footballers are taking steps to obtain a remission or modification of the two years' suspension mflieted on three members of the las' New Zaalmd team. *. ' Among the business to be discussed at the annual meeting of the Canterbury Rugby Union ifl a scheme for fie insurance ot players. Some yews ago a similir scheme was advanced, but the prsmiums required were too heavy, and the proposal came to nought. The secretary was instructed to write the Escelsior Club (O*mtru) intimating that their First and Second Fifteens would visit them during the Easter holidays. • • The annual meeting of the Ravensboura_ Football Club was held in the Ravensbocrne Hotel on the 15bh inst., about 30 members being present. Mr J.. M'Lintock was voted to the chair in the unavoidable Absence of the president, and in a short speech congratulated the club on the financial position it was in. for the Dnnedin team Blues, Stalker, and Fleming W6re the successful bowlers. Roslyn No. 1 defeated Carisbrook B at Bi-hopscourb. Carisbrook, batting seven men, put together the small total of 14. and Roslyn responded with 88, the double scorers beiog Walter Dobson (15) and William Dobson (28), both retiring, and Archer (12 not out). For the Carisbrook Munro and Maitland performed well with the ball, while for Roslyn P. M'Millan and R Brown secured remarkable averages. The Grange Third defeated the High School Second by 11 runs The Grange, battiuß with seven men, made 36 (Price 12, Sinclair 11) ; to which the School could only reply with 25. For the (Grange Pries secured threa for 10 and Crosbie six for 9, and for tho School Goyeu and Hielop bowled well. The Oceana No. 1 claim their match against the Hendley by default, the latter failing to put in an appearance. OTHER MATCHES. The High School A defeated the Porb Chalmers School by febree wickets and five runs. Scores : Poit, 50 ; High School A, 55 for seven wickets. Reid and Permin bowlftd well for the winners. AUCKLAND v. HAWKE'S BAY. Auckland. March 18. The interprovincial cricket m<ttoh Hawke'a Bay v. Auckland was commenced to-day, 150 persons beirg present. The Hawke's Bay team's first innings realised 125, the only Fcorers of double figures being H. B. Lnsk (50), C. H. Calo (18), G. Staite (13), and G. Marshall (13). Auckland's first innings produced 78 only, Kallender scoring 22, Warren 19, and Willis 26. Hawke's Bay in their second '!.>uij ga have two wickets down for 56 run 3 (.LueJr not out 24).
