Banking —The Bank of New South Wales has j opened » permanent office here under the man- I agement of Mr Flint. j The Band.— Once again we can listen to the ! strains of our local brass band. Mr Briasco will, I hope, be successful in resuscitating the band, this time. During the long evenings of winter it enlivens the young folks, as well as being beneficial to the performers. Craig and Co —This fiim intend to run a daily coach to Lawrence during Jubilee week. It will prove a groat convenience to travel] err', and I have no doubt but that a ljirge number will take advantage of it. We have amongst us a very old ! resident in the person of Mr John Meyer, who arrived in Dunedin in 1842 in the William Brodrig, barque, 950 tons, but did not stop. However, he ! again visited our shores in ISiC in the Java, land- \ irq in Auckland, and shortly afterwards making I hirf way down south to Otago. He is 76 years of age. D '(Edging.— The Victoria is undergoing exteusive repairs and alterations just now at the j [ Bendigo dock. She will be ready to go on to her j claim shortly, when I hope to hear of good re- i I turns. j
