His Excellency was then invited to j partake of some light refreshments in the council ! hall, where several townspeople were waiting to . be presented to him. Several toasts were proposed and responded to, the National Anthem be- j ing sung at the conclusion of the reception. The , township looked quite bright during the afternoon, the business places being prettily decorated* with evergreens and flowers, whilst innumerable ! flags and bunting streamed from every cjneeivable vantage point and housetop.
