THE RELIGIOUS COLUMN.
• . ' For a considerable time past the work of compltting the interior of St. P.iirick'a Church, South Dunedio, has been procetding, and operations have now advanced to such a stage that adequate idei of the architectural beauties of the edifice when finished can be gained. The ceiling above the sanctuary and in the transepts ond nave is now up, and is of a highly elaborate and artistic design. The new metal ceiling, which has recently met with so much fuvour both at Home and in the Australian colonies a<? been adopted in tlrs instance, snd the dc sigus, varied as they are according to ih'Mr situation, sra all of a striking, artistic B.ppearance. The -plans in coruiec'ion with this portion of the work were prepared by Mr F. W. Pfctre, engineer and architect. The intesior is expected to be completed about the middle of Febiuary, when, it is stated, an imro r tant ecclesiastical funclion will take placf, iv which djguiiaries from Australia will take part. The orphanage of the Sisters of Mercy is also proceeding apace. Judging by the prerent stete of the bt-uclure it will be of extensive proportions. The South Dunedin branch of the order, it might be added, have lately had their ranks strengthened by the arrival of more nuns from Australia. Including novices, the branch now numbers fully 15.
