The Waibemo County Council. TO THE EDITOR.
Sir, —I forwarded the fallowing letter to the ab./ve body, but il dc es not appear in your report of rheir me* ting :—": — " In reply to yours of the 22nd ult , in which y. v justify ,*ii illegal action on the pita tha r I and the ratepayers urgently wanted the road there, if you will consult the requisition you will find th.vt neither of us wanted it theie; and I b ive reason to believe that they would not sis-a^a petition to get it there, and for you to 'accuse them of it L a gn s.« libel on them, and I trait you will retract it and apologi -,e. I gave you the deviation on jour repr-senfati'-n that it' would make a bett r road with less money than what it would take'to make the oH road passable." The accusation appeared both in the Daily Times and Witness, and injustice to the ratepa\ers kindly insert tbis in both. It is obvious a blunder was committed, but it is sufficient for the ratepayers to bear the cost without the blame of it ; and it would better become the couucil, both as gentlemen and member*, to appoint a commission to find out the guilty party, instead of going floundering ab ut blaming this, that, and the other thing, and making it appear that they know nothing of their own business. — I am, *<j., EWEN M'Do 'ALD. Waihemo, January 1.
