Matthews, and Campbell, aud Messrs Trocbon, Aburn, and B. Chaltne.sea.ch, showing satisfactory Work, while among the many pupils who bad shown proficiency in' their life studies Misses Burton, Bridget, Bell, Ewiug, and LanOels were those whoie uamea' or initials appeared to be attached to the most' meritorious of the works. Freehand drawing had good exponents in the exhibition in MUsea Trochon, Hutfcon, Claik, Beeson, and Airarn, while very ne*t wovk iv geomeiric»l dewing was displayed an havipg be*n executed by Misa Budger.and Mis*es Burton and M'K»y were also represented by good sheets. The example* in the building construction branch of the school's work was only fair. Mr J. Lambourne's were the best of them, but those byMtW. Mills were marred by the slovenly scribbling with which be had fllkd in details, and the Specimens by Messrs Strong an.d W burton wei-e moderate. Mr O. C. Acting's efiforts in the machine construction section were distincUy the beat. They represented neat and careful work, aad one Jciat that contrasted them favourably with the others con«sted in their having been nicely inked in. Messrs J. Coatsworth? L. E. Nees, and J. Blepk wfir.e also exhibitors in th:s branch of the display. ! Amos Burr, an old settler in the Palmeraton' } district, 76 years,of age, and who h»n lost both !of hie arena, was brought up at Wellington on 16th charged with having, on December 7,apd % during the hearing of a trial at the Supreme Court, Wellington, before Mr Juctice Edwards, in which IKenatn Heka was plaintiff, the accused and others being defendants,' committed perjury by stating that a.certain receipt, then produced, -wai signed in bis presence and in the .presence of J»mes Robinson.
