DUNBACK.
Feptember 20. — 'Hi* fiuc rain which we had a fort>.ight_ ago has done an immense amount of good to the crops and grass in the district. Neatly all thecrops are looking well, and the rain that is falling now will keep them going ahead. There is still a good deal to sow. Grass is still veiy sea.i cc.
Cricket.— A meeting of these interested in founiug a cricket club in Dunback was held on the evening of the 11th inst. '.there was a good attendance, and it was resolved to form a club under the name of the Dunback Cricket Club. Eighteen members were enrolled, and there -are a few more likely to joiu, so that it should be possible to pick a strong team. The following oflica-benrer.3 were elected : — Mr Venn, president; Mr J. Mill*, vca - president ; Mr Parker, captain ; Mr F. AY. Venn, vice captain ; Mr A. Battersby, treasurer ; Mr Jno. Murray, secretary.
Oddfeli ows 1 Ball.— The annual ball of the Loyal Dunback Lodge wai htld in Gl vcr's Hall on the 17th io&t. It whs a great success, and eclipsed any previously held. The Ball Coimnilt-e deserve credit for the manner in which th j hall was decorated. The coiling was covered with bright - coloured flogs and cabbage - trie lops, while the walls were covered wiih fUgx, palm fdins, and wattle blossom, aDd looked quite ailistic. The ntfendance was very laige, and included visitors from the Loyal Palniereton J.odge, and from Dur-edia, Macraes, and Waihcmo. The giy - coloured dresses of the ladies, the various coloured sashes worn by the Oddfellows, and the bright decorations helped to make a very lively picture. The music was supplied by Messt-3 J. Philip (violin) and Mr Batte.&by (piano), who weie assisted by Messrs D. Philip and Griffen. Mr J. Mmray acted as MC. Song* were s.uug during tlie evening by Misses Borthwick, Mueller, and Clark, and Waster Lloyd danced a clog dance. During an interval in the dancing, Bro. Macfarlane presented hand-somely-framed emblematical certificates to Past Grands Bros John Mills, John Murray. Fred Glover, and D. Philip. Bto. Macfarlane, during his remarks, dealt briefly on the benefits to bo derived from being an O3df«-llow. and more especially a< a niembir r.f the Dunhark Lodge. The recipients responded briefly. Dancing was kept up until an early hour in t>.e morning. The refreshments were provided by Mi Hutchison, and gave every s»tisfa.ction.
