RIVERSDALE.

August 16.— Our winter is nearly through now, and still we are getting fine weather. Farmers are all busy sowing both wheat and oats, and the land ia in grand order for the seed. I expsct we ■hall get a change soon, however, as in most years the latter half of August is much the worst. Ve,ry likely those who are not ready to sow now may have to wait until well into September before the ground is fit again. Church Bazaab.— A bazaar in- aid of the "Presbyterian Church manse was held in the Drill Hall on Friday last, and was well patronised. Sir Brewer kindly came up from Gore and gavehis services in selling the various articles by auction, and business was very brisk during the evening. Everything went.off at good prices, and the manse fund should benefit considerably by the bazaar. The following ladies were prominent in the trouble they took in making the thing a success : — Mesdames Heenan, Wallace, Donald, and Manson, while Mi3Sts Munro, Wallace, Reid, and . Matheson were all prominent in well-doing. Mr F. Hollingworth was the able secretary. Personal. — Mr F. Unsworth, who has been in the post office here for the last »ix years, has received notice of his transfer to Westport. His many friends in Kiversdale and the surrounding districts are sorry at losing Mr Unsworth, as he has always been particularly obliging in his department, but if the change means a rise, we should rather congratulate him. A few of his friends mean to meet to-day and wish him bon voyage, and at the same time to make him a small presentation in token of their regard. Good-bye, Frank, you have our best wishes ! Babbits.— ln spite of poisoning, &c, rabbits still continue to come in for freezing— not, perhaps, in such large numbers as earlier in the eeason, but still they come in. I believe that Mr Tanner is prepared to take rabbits up till the end of September. What a large amount of money must have been circulated in this district for rabbits thi« year !
