Notes from Wakatipu. (From Our Own Correspondent.) THE ACHILLES MINE.
' Areowtown, July 2\ —The paucity of information that has beetr uotjceablc for some timu pant with regard to this mine was giving rise to , nil kinds of rumour, for ie must be "i orne in mind i that a very gruat amount of interest i 9 taken in . ita development in mining circles. These rumours • are now' effectively answered Hv the announcement of a cake of 493>.z from 481 tons of stone. i This result is the outcome of 23 days' ciusbing J with 15 stampers, and shows' that the stone maiu- ■ tains a very satisfactory average. The shortage of the quantity treated is owing to the severity of j the weather, and not to any scarcity of stone in i the mine. I The splendid success at Ci oniwell of the Electric j No. 2 dredge has j?iven an impetus tod'edging, j and there is once more a p&£ging-off rush to the j Kiwarau, as might well ba expected. It is pro- ; bable that the new life will extend to other localities offering facilities for dredging purposes.
