Wednesday, July 14. Fat Cattle.— The supply to-day consisted of 166 head, about half were prime beef, the rest from stores and inferior steers, with a few aged cows and heifers. Best quality were in rather better demand and improved in value, other softs were dull, and it was difficult to quit them at very low prices. Bsst bullocks sold at £7 to £8 10s, other do at £5 to £6 153, best cows and heifers at £6 to £7 7s 6d, others at £3 to £5 Ids.— The Farmers' Agency Company (Limited) yarded 49, and sold as follows : — For Messrs Murray, Roberts, and Co. (Gladbro-k), 7 heifers at £6 5s to £7 7s 6d ; Mr, William Kirk, 4 bullocks at £6 to £7, 6 heifers at £i 5s to £7 ; Mr W. Lindsay, 5 bullocks at £4 15k to £6 ; Messr* J. and A. Souness. 7 steers at £5 10s to £6 7s b'd'; Mr A. Early, and other?, cows and heifers at quotations. Fat Sheep.— The pens were well filled with 2847 crossbred 'aheep, a large portion of which were wethets and a few pens of good and medium ewes. Moat 'of the wethers weie taken for export at i>iice3 equal to those ruling at last- week's sale. Heavy butchers' ewes also sold fairly well up to recent values, aged and inferior ewes showing a slight decline. Best wethers sold at 14s to 15s 6d, other do 12s to 33s 9d, beet ewes 9s 6d te 12s, other 7s to 9a 3d.—' 1 he Farmers' Agency Company (Limited) penned 770 and sold as follows :— For Messrs James Smith and Sons, 256 crossbred ewe 3 at 78 6d to 10a b'd ; Mr J. I Baeoners were in better request, and sold well at ! higher rates ; others making a fair price. — The Farmers' Agijncy Company (Limited) sold lightweight porkers and stores for clients, at 14s to 26s each.— Donald Reid and Co yarded and sold for Mrs W. Heenan (Maungatua), 5 at 27a 6d to 18s 6d. - Maclean and Co. sold drafts for Messrs Ford Bros. (Allauton) at 14s 6d.— Dalgety and Co. (Limited) sold for a northern at from £2 7s to £2 10s 6d. Grain. — Wheat : Market is almost, lifeless, only prime lots being saleable. Quotations : Prime velvet, 4s 3d to 4s 6d p"6r bushel ; prime Tuscan, 4s 2d to 4s 3d ; medium, 4s to 4s id ; fowl wheat, 3s to 3s 7d (sacks in, terms). Oats : This market continues very dull, and prices are easier if anything than last week, owing no doubt to the fact that large quantities have been held in tho outside jnarketp. Most of the owners are ttill holding out for their reserves, ■and therefore very little has been done in the way of eelliug. Quotations : Good feed, 2s 2Jd to ' 2s 3d ; medium, 2s Id te ?s 2d ; beat milling, 2s 3d to 2s 5d (sacks extra,'- net). j Barley : There is a fair inquiry for barley, esj ecially for feed sort. Quotations : Prime malting, 4s to 4s 3d ; medium do, 3s 4d to 3s lOd ; feed and milling, 2s_ 6d to 3s 3d (sacks exira, net). Cuaff. -A fair quantity has come in within the last few days, causing the prices to go down. Prices at Monday's sales were as follows :— Good oateu chaff, £3 »5s to £3 17s 6d ; extra prime, £4 ; medium to g> od, £3 10s to £3 12s 6d ; straw and inferior, £1 9s 6d to £2 10s (bags extra, net). 1 Potatoes. — A good demand prevails for Derweuts, but other ■sorts are hard to sell. Prime northern Derwent potatoes are selling at £3 5b to , £3 10s ; medium, £3 to £3 2s 6d (bags in, net). , Rabbitskins.— The market ia still bare of rabbitskius, and prices if anything are a shade easier. Winters are selling up to 13d ; autumns, 7d to 9d ; summers, 4d to 6d ; suckers and halfgrown, Id to 3Jd per lb. Sheepskins. — There was a fair attendance at the weekly sales on Tuesday. Competition was not sokeeu as usual, and consequently prices were down. ' Green crossbreds sold at 2s 3d to 3? 3d ; do merino, Is 9d to 3s ; dry crossbred?, 2s 4d to 4s ; do merino, Is 43 to 3s 6A ; pelts, 4d to Is 6d. Hides. — There is no change in prices to record. The demand is still good, especially for extra heavy torts, -which ar« bringing 3Jd to 3Jd. Good heave hides are worth 2|d to 3Jd : medium, 21d to 24d ; light, ]}d to 2d. 'Tallow. —There has been a very large quantity of tallow and fat coming into Dunedin within the last fortnight, and in coustquence prices aro, if anything, a shade easier. Quotations : Best ren- , dered, 14s to 15s ; medium, 12 to 133 ; inferior, 9s 1 to lls ; fat, 9s to lla per cwt.
