AN OUTSPOKEN DEPUTATION.

(Fbom Oor Own Coruespondent.) , Wellington, July 12. What wibh the strange appointments' of justices of the peace in receipt of charitaole aid, and of undischarged bankrupts aB valuators, and diecontenb among co-operative labourers and other Government supporters, the Ministry mu6t be having rather an anxious time in the absence of their chief. I learn that a number of working men talked pretty plainly to the Hon. Mr Hall-Jones on Saturday. To-night's Post throws a little light on the subject. It aaya : " The deputation from, the Workers' Union, which waited upon the Minister for Public Worke, comprised an unusually outfcpcken body of men. They told their tale, it iseenis, and made their complaints with a pleasing disregad to the feelings of those responsible for the abuses which they most determinedly attacked, and, although this uuuaual form of procedure must have been somewhat of a shock to the Minister, the ontspok- nntas of the deputation appears to have had the desired effect, for he promised to apply remedial measures. The complaints made were not against the co-operative system, for the deputation appeared to be well satisfied with that, but against the action of some of the individuals who have the administration oE it. From what we can father gome of the complaints made were such as deserved ventilation, but as press reporUrs were excluded from tha interview, we are unable to give details."
