Christchurch, June 7f7 f Thin afternoon, hifl Worship the Mayor waa fairly besieged with applications for the coal and blankets which are to be purchased with the money given by the trustees of ' the late Mr Hym&n Marks. The majority of the crowd consisted of women of ail ages, but there were numbers of men included. The applicants were called into the office one at a time, but the press at the door became so great that the assistance of a coDstuble had to be oalled in. The list of applicants was by no means exhausted, and those who could not get iv to-day will present themselves) to-morrow afternoon. The names o* ihe applicants will be submitted to the Charitable Aid Board to ascertain thoad who are receiviog relief from that body.
