THE DR STUART MEMORIAL.
In the course, of a sermon preached on Sunday at Knos Church by the Rev. Mr Howitson, on the subject of " Patriotism," the rer. gentleman took occasion to refer to the long delay that had taken place in providing a public memorial to the late Rev. Dr Stuart. A gentleman well known in Dunedin in tho olden days happening to be in church and hewing the statements mado by Air Hewitson, yesterday forwarded the following letter with a cheque for 10 guineas to Mr Glendiuing :—: — . City Hotel, Dunedin, June 6, 1897. Mr Glendining, secretary to the late Dr Stuart memorial fund. Dear Sir, — A stranger in Dunedin, I went^ to Knox Church this morning, and was surprised' to hear your worthy pastor's remarks re this fund. Three years, and not. sufficient yet subscribed. Allow me to uubscribo \0 guin«>im (order enclosed), and if required will give a furthor subscription. Do not lot it be said thoto was a difficulty in raising a memorial to one of — if not the finest, noblest colonist that ever lived. — I have. Ac, G. F. Bullish.
