THE MACETOWN REEFS. (From Our Own Correspondent.)

Aniura town, May 3.

The Glenrock Company cleaned up 2060 a 12dwt from 245 ton —nearly 17dwt to the ton. The Westraha, obtained Sloz 15dwt from 219 tons — nearly Sdwt to the ton. The Gleuro k Company obtained also £70 worth of : old from the berdan concentrates by the cyanide process. The prospects iv this mine are excellent, and improving in depth.

A NEW FIND AT LONGWOOD,

The Western Star, reports that Mr George Rorke, an old and exerienced miner, who has been piospectiijg in the Longwood range, near Uiverton, after some stripping, came across a welldefined reef. The outcrop was discovered in a creek at the foot of a spur into which the reef runs, and from certain indications he concluded he had struck good 3tone. He was then joined by Mr John Simon, and ifc was decided to send a quantity of the stone to the Dunedin School of Mines for the purpose of being assayed. Accordingly 251b of stone was taken from the reef in a haphazard manner and sent up. Last Friday word was received that the yield wai eriual to 19dwt 17grs to the ton — three grains 3hort of an ounce— a result which speaks for itself. There is every probability of Mr White, of Dunedin, forming a company to thoroughly test the reef before commeDcing extensive operations. The reef runs north-west and south-east, dips to the west, and makes in the dip. It has been stt-ippsd for 20yds, revealing a thickness of 15in. At the north-west end it is Sin. It has been traced for 10 chains, which is the width of the spur. At the south-west end it crosses a creek and strikes into another Bpnr, but nothing has been done there beyond sinking a hole to ascertain its direction. At the north-west end about 20ft of cutting has been made, with the intention of putting in a drive to tap the reef in the centre of the spur, and a shaft is to be sunk at the south-we3fc end foraboufc lOffc, the prospectors being engaged at the work now. The reef is different from the others in the locality, and has a splendid hard casing (always a good sign), which is full of pyrites, the rust of which prevents gold from being seen in the stone. The prospects and the assay, however, prove its existence.
