ZEALANDIA.
j There is an isle, a lovely isle, | Far out amid the wave, i ose rocky coasts and headlands bold I 1 he polar tempests brave. The air that fills her sunlit vales And bathes her mountains' Bides Wafts in their flight no carrion birds — No lethal vapour hides. Within her strong and wholesome seas No sliuiy •monsters creep ; No frightful whirlpool there is found, No terrors of the deep. There stalks within her. forests' gloom. No cunning savage beast ; Within her coasts there lurks no foe All round from west to ea3t. Through scrub or dell, in gorg;e or glade, Where'er our steps we take. No reptiles bteal within the shade, Beneath the grass no snake. April 1897. — Southlander.
