ALEXANDRA.
April 26.— 0n Kaster Monday nearly everyone in town journeyed to the sports at Clyde. Indeed, it was remarked that had it not been for the very Alexandra people there would hava been a very poor attendance indeed at the sports. Police Court.— On Tuesday, before Mr G. Kpence, .T.P., Thomas Wilson, for being drunk and disorderly, was fined 5s and cost*. He was brought up again iv the afternoon charged with assaulting his wi'e, and was remanded to Clyde Gaol till Monday, the case to be heard before the S.M. Bail was refused. The caße came on to-day before S.M. M'Carthy, and is being heard at time of writing (2.30 p.m.). Medical Association.— The Medical Association held their annual meeting in the schoolhouse on Thursday evening, when a good number of members were present. The balance sheet showed a deficit, and it is'evident that the society has not yet got on to a sound basis. The yearly
contribution of members was raised 5s more, th« rates now being for married people £2 5< and for single £1 ss. One regrettable feature about tha affair is that we have lost Dr Hodges, in whom everyone in the association had implicit faith. The committee elected were — Me3ars Ross, Kelman, Kennedy. Milne, Murison, Hutton, Murray, T. Walker, aud Hansford. Debating Society.— The annual meeting of this socie y was held on Friday evening in the library, and was, contrary to expectations, very poorly attended. The society has decided to meet a fortnight earlier this year. Mr Robert Gilkisou, of Clyde, was elected president, md Messrs J. G. Closs and F. William.} vice-presidents ; secretary ;>nd treasurer, Mr R. Tetry and Mr John Rivers ; committee of management— Messrs Will, Carroll, White, (rrimstone, and Clark. The ladies' committee was not elected, as every lady in tho room declined to stand, and consequently tho election of a ladies' committee will bo held at the first regular meeting. For thk Winter Nights.— The Bicycle and Football Clubs are going to combine and go in for a Mutu.il Progress C ub during the winter sights. Debatps, songs, recitation?, lectures, and readings, together with chess, draughts, and cards, will combine to form the night's amuse, ment.
