April 26. — The annual meeting of householders for this district was hold in Smith's Hnll on Monday evening There was a very meagre attendance, and the Mayor (Mr W. M. Shore) presided, and read the following report, which was adopted nem dis ,•— "Your committee have to report that during their term of office 19 meetings have been held, and the following are tho attendances of members :— A H. Chapman 18, J. Hislop 17, W. Wilson 18, J. Christie 15, A. Smaill 15, T. Barclay 15, It. Douglas 12, A Carson 8. At the first meeting held Mr Wilson was appointed chairman and Mr Chapman as clerk. "The balance-sheet shows the total income for the year to be £9!) 13s 3d, and the expenditure £78 193 3d, leaviug a credit balance of £20 I4s. there beins no outstanding liabilities. ' Your committee are pleased to report that, through the liberal response of parents, guardians, and others, including a. special donation of £2 from Mv J. Allen, M.11.R , they were ablo to distribute prizes at the breaking up of the school. "Your committee in iepjrting that no alteration has bosn made in the permanent teaching stnfF during the year, desires to express their regret that the bchool is losing the valuable service's of Mr Parlane, ho having besn appointed to th* Milton High School. "The attendance of pupil? throughout the year has sh nvn an average of 311), but your committee regrets a < increase in tho defaulters' list, and would icspectfully urge upon parents the necessity of an enforced compliance with tho compulsory clauses of the Kducation Act to prevent a reduction beinir madf* in the teaching staff. " The annual inspection, held by Inspectors Fitzgerald and Richardson, was such as merited a very satisfactory report fiom tho inspectors and the unanimous endorsement of your committee. " Your comimttee_ are pleased to report that they, with the combined assutanco of the Arbour Day Committee, were, able to plant a largo number of foreßt and ornamental trees within the school glebe. "Your oommitttee, through the liberal concessions! granted by the railway authoritH", arranged an excursion to Dunedin, it being largely patronisod by both parents and pupils. "Buiing the year your committee found it imperative to approach the board for « grant for a now residence for the principal master, and they are pleased to report that their efforts h*ve been (uccessful, and the building, which is to be erected on the glebe, will be commenced immediately. " During .the year plans for such works as fis,phaltinp, concrete retaining wall, and water channels have been prepared and submitted to th» board, who, having granted a pound fov pound subsidy, we would urge the immediate attention of our successor* towards, this work."
