PICNIC AND SPORTS.
The annual gathering and sports of the members, wives, and friends of the Loyal Excelsior Lodge, No. 41, P.A.F.S.A., was held in Bro. A. Lee Smith's paddock, Green Island, on 30th November. There was a very large attendance, and, although the weather was threatening in the morning, the day turned out all that could be desired for a holiday. 1 Bro. A. Lea Smith placecTthe paddock at the tfaposal of the'lodge, while Mrs Lee Smith looked after the comforts of the gathering by providing them with fruit and sweets. During the day Mr Frank Smith took* some splendid snapshots, and Sir A. Lee Smith, jun., did- good work by ably Assisting the committee in their several duties, iff he interest taken in the gathering by the residents was shown by their largely contributing' conations and trophies. The thanks of the lodge are due for donations to Dr Will, Messrs Charles Samson, J. Louden, M'Lean and Sons, James "Miller, D. Buchanan, J, Rosa, A. Houlston, R. Rutherford, and New Zealand Refrigerating
Company. Refreshments were very liberally provided and distributed to the gathering at 12, and again at 4 o'clock. 'The sports commenced at 1 o'clock, and the several events were well contested, with the following results :— Lodge Handicap.— M. Neilson 1, A. Brockie 2, A. M'Allan 3.
Members' Wives' Race.— Mrs Falconer 1, Mrs M'Allan 2, Mrs Ramsay 3. Married Members' Race.— A. Falconer 1, A. Brockie 2, R. Hill 3. Yoljths 1 Race.— G. Brockie 1, J. Edgar 2, R. M'Clanagan 3. Sack Race.— M. Neilson 1, A. Falconer 2, A. Brockie 3.
Three-legoed Race.— Brockie and Falconer 1, Neilaon and M'Allan 2, Pellew and Herberson 3.
Whitebrook Handicap.— Boys : Knox I, Russell 2, M'Lean. 3. Girls j Dobbie 1, Marshall 2, Green 3.
Makried Women's Race.— Mrs Ritchie 1, Mrs M'Quarrie 2, Mrs Greeu 3. Single Ladies' Race.— Miss A. M'Neil 1, Miss A. Russell 2, Miss L. Pringle 3. Members' Race.— A. Brockie 1, R. Hill 2, A. M/Allau a.
Single Ladies' Pace.— Miss C. Ritchie 1, Miss A. Ritchie 2, Miss F. Hall 3. Tugof-War (Married Ladies against Single Ladies).— The married ladies won.
