CANTERBURY AGRICULTURAL.

(Fbom Oub Own Correspondent.) Chbistchubch, November 24.

Cold winds still prevail, and crops and grass are making very slow growth, but are still more forward than at this time last year. Crops on well drained and well cultivated land are healthy, and a few days' genial weather would make a vast difference. A large area of potatoes is being planted, and there will also be an increase in turnips and rape. Lambs have had a check by the unfavourable weather, many ot the ewes having gone almost dry, especially those which were shorn early. Shearing is now in full swing, and the clip is coming quite up to the favourable anticipations formed respecting it.

Our Roxburgh correspondent writes :— " A young man named Francis Palmer was committed for trial on Monday by Messrs Burton and Cormack, J.P.s, on a charge of indecent assault on Sunday evening latfc. Bail was allowed in v.vo sureties of £25 and accused in £50."

Owing to the general election having been fixed for Friday, 4th December, the Palmerston and Waihemo Agricultural and Pastoral Association have been under the necessity of altering the date of their show until Friday, 11th December.

Excursion tickets will be issued by the Railway department in connection with tho Southland A, and P. show at Invercargill on December 8 and 9. Particulars are advertised elsewhere.
