John Peteraon applied for a special claim of 40 acres at Deep stream, surveyed as section 3, block VII, Lee stream, comprising 38 acre?. -There was no objection, and hfe Worship decided to recommend the granting of ths claim for the Minister's approval. The following applications were adjourned tul August 7 :— Donald Reid, jun., for a licensed holding over section 8, block XI, Nenthorn (Barewood), comprising 30 acres ; Walter Walton, licensed holdinj; ever section 7, block XI, Nen« thorn (Barewood), comprising 30 acres; S. A. Lydera and Jameß Harrison, for a licensed holding over section 3, block V, Mount Hyde, 16£ acres ; James Duff, /or an extended claim of four acres on mining reserve, Waikouaiti river ; James Duff, for a water race, four miles and a-half long, on mining reserve, Waikouaiti. The following applications were granted :— P. A. Lyders and James Harrison, for a water race, two miles long, from Game Cock to Game Hen Gully; Ernest Turner, Peter A. Lyders, and Frederick Evanß, for ft water race, three miles
long, at Thvce o'Olook Creek, and a machine slt«, five acres, at Three o'Olock Creek. P. A Lydera and James Harrison applied for a dam of an area of two acres at Game Cock Gullyj Hindon. Mr Fraser, on behalf of S. Singer and Allan Boyd, objected to the dam being larger thsm tho ono existing at the present time.-/! he application was adjourned till August 7. ' Edward M'lfiwan applied for an extended claim of three acre 3at Style a Gully, Hindon, and for a tail race of two miles in Stylo'B Gully, Hindon,— Mr Hanlon.appeared for the applicant, and Mr J. Mouat for Messrs Lydera and party, who objected.— Mr Mouat stated that his clients had expended £2000 on ths tail race, and it was atlll ill course of construction. There was a considerable interval during which there had been no work done, but they had never intentionally abandoned tho place. . It was a very heavy undertaking —Mr Oarew said that the matter was open to very extensive litigation, and ha suggested that the parties should try to come to terms.— Mr Hanlon stated that his olient contended that Lyders and party had absolutely abandoned the claim. They got protection for a certain term, and at the expiration of the term they did nothing more to the claim. They applied for no further protection.— Tho matter was adjourned till the 7th of next month. Richard Sheppard was granted, a licensed holding over section 44, block IV, Mount Hyde (12a 3r 4p), and James Harrison and P. A. Lyders were granted a licensed holding over section*, block V, Mount Hyde: The application of Robert Hay for registration as an authorised surveyor in terras of regulation 227 was referred to the chief snrvyor.
DREDGING RETURNS.
Mr Jabez Burton reports :—" The Roxburgh Gold Steam Dredging Company (Limited), washed up 18Joz of gold for the week ending Saturday, 27th inst. The bucket ladder is now being lengthened; consequently there will bo no dredging for 10 days or a fortnight. The Ettrick Gold Steam Dredging Company (Limited) washed up for (ilve days' dredging) the week ending the 27th inst. 2"oz of gold." •' ,- The Golden River Dredging Company's return for the four weeks is 87Joz of gold. Water for the pipe 3 is in very short supply now, in the hard frost and dry weather. The secretary of the Dunedin Gold Dredging Company (Limited) received the following telegram from the dredgema*ter on Saturday :— " Not washing up, weather bad." Mr Thomas Oallender reports 640z 12dwt (tor retorted gold front the fctov Hoy Big Beach Gold Mining Company (Limited) for the past week. The Upper Waipori Alluvial Gold Dredging Company (Limited) obtained from No. 1 dredge 7oz 6dwt of gold for 129 hour*, and from No. 2 dredge 9oz 3dwt of gold for 131 hours' dredging Last week. The Jutland Flat (Waipori) Gold Mining Company (Limited) obtained SBoz Bdwt of gold for 144 hours' wages time— l 36 hours' actual dredging— ltt^t weeV. Mr C. S. Reeves reports 18oa 2dwt 21gr gold for the week's work— l 23 hours— of the Enterprise dredge, Alexandra. The secretary of the Otago Gold Dredping Company (Limited) reports 18Joz of gold for lost woekVn dredging. . ,
